Etsy is a fantastic place to sell crafts and vintage clothing. You can easily run a business out of your home and keep overhead costs low. Enjoy the flexibility of running your own schedule, allocating your own funds, taking your own orders (not your boss's). Selling on Etsy is not for everyone, but for some who really treasure this lifestyle, it can be a great way to make a living.
However, it is not as easy as it sounds to make a living off of Etsy. It is hard work, long hours. It can be tedious and monotonous at times. Also, it is a hustling lifestyle. You are always on the go and looking for new opportunities to purchase inventory or make something new.
If you have an outgoing personality and you are a hard worker, selling on Etsy can be a very lucrative business.
The fashion of the 1940s was heavily influenced by World War II. Simple styles became the staple. Rayon became the fabric of choice as nylon and wool were reserved solely for the military. Japanes silk and other fine Japanese textiles were banned from the United States. also see the introduction of the trouser and jumpsuit as highly influenced by the war. Women began to work in factories and contribute towards the supplying for the war. Sequins became popular to add flare to an outfit. They were a rather inexpensive way to add glam by a material not being used for the war. We also see the the intriduction of the two piece swim suit in the 1940s... the iconic high-waisted bottoms. Girdles, stockings and shoulder pads were all also a staple of the 1940s.
The 1950s introduced a bit more freedom in style. The war was over and the United States culture started to become more colorful again. Simple modern prints became popular. The full 360 dregree circle skirt came into style. Cummerbund waistlines often accompanied this poodle skirt style. Undergarments such as petticoats were worn to achieve fullness. The age of rockabilly gave rise. More natural fabrics were introduced once again. High quality cotton became a staple. The playsuit was coined and will forever be iconic of of the 1950s.
The 1960s brought two very different fashion trends. One culture embraced the hippie bohemian look. The other embraced the mod op art look. The hippie fashion style embraced a counter culture for peace, love and happiness. While the modern style was taken up mostly by young working professionals. Here we see fashion begin to define the individuals sense of identity within society. Clothing as an expression of self.
The hippie fashion continued into the 1970s. Long dresses made of synthetic material such as polyster and nylon became main stream. At this point we see the mass production of inexpensive fashion. Handmade garments became a thing of the past. Floral prints were very popular duting this time. And we have the era of the Gunne Sax style dress. Art and fashion really started to comingle. Vogue became known for its outlandish and forward-thinking ads. Long hair, bell bottoms, disco and retro were all in-style in the 70s.
Acid wash jeans, racer baccks, puff paint, gem insets, big hair, hot colors, shoulder pads, lots of make-up, gum smacking, hair spray, and bright red pumps. What is there not to love about the 1980s? It was just totally never ending and radical dude. We also say the revival of fur coats for evening wear. Anything fflashy and glamorous was back in style. It was not my favorite decade, but one that is certainly distinct and memorable.
