The following is an oral presentation of my Master’s Thesis study “Teaching and Promoting Digital Literacy in a Post Truth Era of Fake News.” This study takes as its premise Senate Bill 947 which requires California to create statewide standards for digital citizenship, internet safety and media literacy by January 2021. Students today struggle to distinguish credible sources from misinformation, valid evidence from faulty data, truth from fakery, fact from fiction. The question is: Why?
