PLANS: IEP & 504

There are two types of educational support plans for students diagnosed with ADHD.

IEP Plans

The student has at least 1 of 13 learning disabilities outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The student is often assigned an aide with highly specialized support in all classes.

An IEP plan must be cleared by a parent, a general education teacher, a special education teacher, a psychologist and District Representative.

An IEP plan is a formal written document detailing the special needs of the child, goals and modifications.

504 Plans

The student has any disability, physical or mental that may limit access to learning.

Accommodations are made to ensure the student has equal access to learning.

504 plans only need to be cleared by the parents, a general education teacher, a special education teacher and the Principal.

504 plans require no documentation, but rather is an informal understanding that specific accommodations will be made.
