Their Stories

At Operation HOPE-Vista, our clients come through the doors broken and in desperate need of help for a multitude of reasons; here’s one of their stories.

Maggie had been working all her life until she came through the shelter doors fleeing from her abuser. With nothing but her son and the clothes on their backs, Maggie not only left her abuser behind; she left her home, her job, her dog, her family, and her friends behind. She did all this knowing that if she wanted her and her son to be safe, once she left she could never go back.

She came to us actively fleeing and with nowhere else to go but from the minute she arrived she demonstrated the drive, strength, and motivation to secure a future for her family. In no time at all, she was elected as a Peer Leader at the shelter for her natural ability to inspire and lead others.

She has gone above and beyond every one of the goals she set for herself; she completed counseling to help her recover from her traumatic abuse, her son is enrolled in a new school where he is getting the help and attention he deserves, she has taken legal actions to protect her family, she’s saved money, and she has successfully moved on to a transitional housing program.

She is now pursuing a degree in counseling and family advocacy so that she might be able use her own personal experiences to help others who have been through the horrific events of domestic violence. I have no doubt that she will make a positive impact on our community.
