ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Bree. I am an educator, web designer, front-end developer and writer. I like to tell stories, bringing visions into reality, through any and all possible mediums. In 2017 I earned a professional certification in “Web Development and Design” and recently earned a California Teaching Credential in the subject of English with a M.A.Ed. in Teaching. When I am not building websites, I am engaging students in deep learning activities. I have a double bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz in “Philosophy” and “Political Science” and a second master’s degree from American University in Washington, DC in “Ethics, Peace and Global Affairs.” I have worked at several non-profits and volunteered many hours of my time. Subsequently, I was a small business owner of an e-commerce site. For the past three years I have been a substitute teacher in the greater San Diego area. I have always loved art and creativity, whether it be through writing, crafts, drawing, or computer graphics. Please, come explore my world…

EDUCATION RESOURCES

ADHD

Here you will find resources I have created related to English Language Arts. This section is a compilation of webquests, informational sites, oral presentations and lesson plans.

“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school” – Albert Einstein

It is the skills that we teach our students that remain with them throughout their lives long after the plot details of a story have lapsed. Check my blog posts for more ELA resources and ideas.

WEB DEVELOPMENT

Here you will find several of the websites I have created. They use a myriad of coding a scripting languages including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery and PHP. Several of the sites, including this one, are WordPress sites.

“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works” – Steve Jobs

I focus predominately on UI/UX design. Both my design and development processes prioritize functionality, as well as content. I always strive for cohesion of style, use and purpose.

ANIMATION & INTERACTIVITY

free spirit

I enjoy creating animations, games and other interactive pieces. Most of the work you will find in this section was created using Adobe Animate CC, the Create.js framework, and pure JavaScript.

“Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age and dreams are forever… if you can dream it, you can do it” – Walt Disney

There is nothing like art in movement. I believe animation to be one of the most profound art mediums. The Latin word “anima” literally means breath or soul. Animation gives soul to art. The beauty of animation is that it is not restricted by the confines of the physical world…Anything is possible!

CREATIVE ART

Almost all of my graphic art was created using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. In this section of my portfolio you will find photograph manipulation, digital watercolor paintings and minimalistic vector art.

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for” – Milton Glaser

I enjoy uncomplicated, simple flat designs and bold colors. Simplicity, cleanliness and white space are undoubtedly the keys to the WOW factor that Glaser mentions.

LOGOS & BRANDING

Project Sugar Free KickStart

Creating logos is a special kind of art. It is easy to complicate a logo, because well, a small little symbol needs to signify an entire company. However, if you look at the 50 most iconic brand logos of all time you will notice that they are all simple flat designs which only utilize one or two colors.

“There is no design without discipline. There is no discipline without intelligence” – Massimo Vignelli

Sometimes I feel as though my designs are childish, but then I realize that some of my most immature pieces are some of my best work. Simplicity does not necessarily presume unsophistication.
